What is Sorbonite®?

Sorbonite® is a homogenous lime-based material,  which has a composition with, among other things, silicon, which, when heated, gets an increased pH and thus an effective killing of bacteria and odors are greatly reduced from e.g. grease separators and ventilations from toilets. Is used in Xodors products Odor bag and DryDrain®

How long does Odor bag remove odors and what do I need to check?

Sorbonite®, which is the filter material in the bag, has a high pH (approx. 11) and this means that bacteria are killed and odors are reduced. The lifespan of Sorbonite® depends on many factors such as, for example, air flows, the cause of odors, external influences from rain, snow and ice. You can put a cover over the Odor bag if you want to prevent snow or ice from blocking the air flow, these are available in many stores or at plumbers. We recommend checking the bag at regular intervals (every six months) so that nothing has happened to its function.

What is the flow resistance in Odörsäcken with Sorbonite®?

This can be read in a report from RISE under ”Documents”

What do I do with used Sorbonite®?

If it does not remove any odor and the filter cannot be reactivated, then the pH is low and you can spread Sorbonite® on the lawn or other places that need liming! Sorbonite® also contains silicon which strengthens plants together with lime. Sorbonite® weathers over time and provides a long-lasting contribution of lime and silica to plants.  If you are unsure of the pH value, you should check this on the material before it is used for plants.

How do I change Sorbonite® in Odor Bag?

See the instructional video further down on the home page. In summary, this is the way to change Sorbonite®

– Pull the odor bag out of the pipe

– Open the zipper on the Odor Bag

– Pour out Sorbonite® and spread to plants that can handle a slightly higher pH

– Pour in new Sorbonite® that you bought

– Put the bag down the pipe

<br /> Which odors does Sorbonite® remove?

Odors from waste water, grease separators, matos, floor drains etc..

Can I use Sorbonite® to purify drinking water or the water for my pets?

Sorbonite® has a high pH, which means that you should not purify water for living organisms. We advise against using Sorbonite® for water purification.

How much Sorbonite® do I need??

In this online store, there are replacement materials for Xodor’s products with customized volumes for each product.

How does the deodorization with Sorbonite® work?

Sorbonite® has a high pH which kills bacteria and greatly reduces odors – moisture in the air helps start this process. Bacteria grow and thrive in primarily acidic environments and are stabilized around pH 7. Sorbonite® has a pH above 11 initially and therefore bacteria have difficulty surviving

Can you remove bacteria in the air with Sorbonite®?

Yes – Sorbonite® removes bacteria effectively, especially bacteria that cannot withstand alkaline environments. The ability decreases over time so be sure to change Sorbonite® for more effective purification. See report on bacteria tests at Lindholmen’s sewage treatment plant in Norrtälje(Sweden) under ”Documents”.

How do I check Sorbonite® pH value?

Take some Sorbonite® and put it in a glass of water. Gently stir the Sorbonite® and the water in the glass and wait a few minutes. Then take a pH stick with a basic scale (7-14) (available to buy online or in stores) and check the pH of the water

What is too high a pH for plants and animals?

Plants normally thrive in a pH of 6-7. Above pH 8.5 it becomes dangerous for plants and animals.

What happens if the pH of Sorbonite® is higher than 8.5?

Usually nothing if you take care to spread Sorbonite® over a large lawn or a large flower bed so that the concentration is reduced. Sorbonite® weathers over time and gives growing contributions of lime and silicon.
